Postby VAN HALEN » Fri May 25, 2018 5:37 pm

I hope so :icon_thumbsup:

Imagine having that type of choice taken from you by the government or anyone else, what a fucking nerve :icon_uhoh:

The choice should be taken before conception
The unborn have rights too (at least in this country)

And for those who still want to abort children there’s already plenty of options, I have at least 3 mates who openly talk about what they did

I have to admit that I don't like the idea of abortion. I think it's something that most people will live to regret, but I do think people should have the right to make their own minds up.

We used to have a right slag round my way when I was young that had three or four abortions. Just wasn't careful, and didn't care.

Then I was watching the news the other day about this, and you had a young Irish woman that got pregnant as she wanted a child with her partner, but was told if she did give birth it would kill her. She had to go to Liverpool to have an abortion. That's not right in my mind.

I honestly don't know what I feel regarding the morality of it etc, but I feel people should be allowed to make their own minds up and not have a decision forced upon them.

Nothing is forced on them, they are free to explore the options that are available (traveling to the uk or whatever)

It’s the law of the land, we all harp on about Isis lads not accepting western society when they come to live in it.
It’s just something that has to be respected.

That said I think this referendum will pass

This is a chance for Ireland to move away from being seen as a 'Catholic' nation and move into modern times.

It's a medical/ethical issue that is also caught up in the identity of Ireland, what kind of country does it want to be?

A fair point. Will you accept it and respect it if it's repealed then? Many folk in this country didn't and don't accept the results of a recent referendum.

Like I said I’ve at least 3 mates who have terminated pregnancies and openly talk about it. It’s not something I’d personally do, I’d rather be responsible for my actions, but I’m not going to go all Western Baptist Church on them.

As for what Mark says, it’s seen as a move away from being catholic and that rather than the morals of this is what will carry this referendum.

England?
A nation of people that can’t stand itself?

I think it’s fair to say we moved well past that

Why do you think we can't stand ourselves :icon_lol:

Others would say we are overly patriotic oi oi nationalistic types. I guess it depends which subject is being discussed and what people's agendas are.

But anyway it's not about us this time, it's about Ireland. When will you know the result?

I was on the fence until the feminists got involved. Shower of cunts with their hands off my ovaries shit.
Got home late ish last night from being in UK most of the week. Had a few drinks on the way. Mrs was entertaining 2 of her single mates. A 3 v 1 debate started. I'm not a holy person npbut like Dave I'm uncomfortable with the messy business.
My point was that I didn't accept abortion on demand if there was a heart beat ie @ 8 weeks.
"A foetus with a heartbeat should be able to rely on its mother when someone is out to kill it. Oh , shit its you mum. "
I nearly got bottled.

I can handle the results of both the gay and the 8th referendums. Neither are my personal beliefs but I did vote yes for the gay weddings
As for abortion, I’d be devastated if my lad had no morals and ran around having kids with every slut who can’t keep their knickers on

You've got to hope your son is better than that though. I would guess he would be.

There are people, and I hate to say it as I'm one of them, that are poor and uneducated and use it as a tool.

I know what you mean.

That's where education comes in, but it will take decades.
