Anything from either of us would be pure speculation but maybe it was what was needed to give him a kick up the arse and make him realise he wasn't playing his best. If that's the case then the fault lies at benitez' feet for not being able to get him back to his best.

He doesnt strike me as a deliberately cunty, lazy sort of player, that's why I think along those lines.

I don't feel any particular need to defend him btw, I just liked him as a player and would have him back in a second, particularly now we have kenny.

I think he's a good player, just don't get the fawning over him I've witnessed over the last couple of days from fans.

I used to like Sissoko. Not flawless and a bit lanky, but he could tackle. Well he couldn't, but it used to make me laugh. I remember when he nearly went blind and everyone was worried we would lose him, then the next season everyone wanted him out.

I was a Rafa fan. Again, not flawless. Puzzling sometimes, but not many managers would have got that team to two CL finals. We beat the best Europe had when he was in charge. Pretty much Man U and Munich were the only teams we didn't beat and that was because we didn't play them.

Honestly, he's an attack minded defender playing for a top 4 team on a regular basis so for the prices being mentioned, bout 5 to 7 mil, with his experience, its a no brainer really. If you look at it, he'll be replacing konchesky!!
