100 years since the end of the first World War

Postby VAN HALEN » Sun Nov 11, 2018 8:37 pm

All the remembrance stuff seems to take on more and more meaning the older I get.

I can't really get my head round what they went through.

The amount of people that ended up begging on the streets/having a world of shit after was untold as well.

The amount of people being worthy about it on Facebook this morning though. Poppy porn.

I’ve no problem whatsoever with honoring veterans of of the WW’s

But Just now on bbc news some woman said she was there because her brother was a serviceman who died in Ireland.
That guy would still be alive if he wasn’t occupying foreign territory...
but weren’t the WW’s fought against occupation of foreign territory??

So isn’t it a bit hypocritical to honor the brave armed forces who fought for the modern day freedom we enjoy while also honoring the same forces for the atrocities they committed

No, I agree
There is a time and a place for these things

Thought it was in bad taste for the bbc to have it on the 10 o’clock news

If they are honoring ww1 vets that’s well and good, but there’s no need to bring the north into it

It was, as I expected it would be. As a film though, what an achievement. Some very poignant moments, particularly towards the end, coming home and nobody giving a fuck what they had been through.

I don't think I could have watched it. I was listening to some of the stories about the survivors on the radio, and that was bad enough.

Go find on the player.
I didn’t get to sleep for a few hours after it.
I’m never good on Monday morning, but today i took in and noticed what normally is missed on a Monday. It felt great. Park all the political stuff , just be thankful that you weren’t born circa 1900. We owe so much to those we never knew
