Phone in a bag of rice
Phone in a bag of rice
Pouring down on my delivery this morning, forgot to put my phone in a more protected pocket, it now won't turn on so is in a bag of rice. That's never going to work is it

It depends how long it was on when it got soaked I think. Leave it in there for fucking ages and then leave it out for a few days I reckon without turning it on. Let it dry out as much as possible....fingers crossed. You got insurance?
Re: Phone in a bag of rice
Nah, last one lapsed and I didn't bother renewing. Hopefully the basmati will come to the rescue

Re: Phone in a bag of rice
Had mine in a bag of rice and occasionally put the bag on the radiator for 3 days nothing
Brought it to the local Chinaman shop and he said he wouldn't know if he could fix it until he opened it, thing is if he opens it apple will tell me to go and fuck
So I bit the bullet and gave it to apple, it was beyond repair so they gave a reconditioned replacement at €347
I dropped it in a glass of juice literally only a cm of the phone was in the liquid for a split second

Yeah mine was in my pocket, in a case when it was raining and that was all it took.
Think if the rice doesn't work I'm just gonna go to Tesco and by a cheap thing and stick with that. Don't really need a powerful phone now I've changed jobs anyways.
I opened the sim drawer and it felt moist and you can see condensation inside the notification light bit. It's fucked isn't it.

Re: Phone in a bag of rice
Well, I've had it in rice for about 12 hours and a desk fan blowing air up its arse for about 12 hours and still not a peep out of it.
Weirdly it was quite nice not having a phone on me today.
So what do I do here, give it a few more days to try and dry? I'm thinking of just buying a cheap one. Only need the basics now I'm not driving lorries by more. Anyone ever had a reconditioned phone?

Re: Phone in a bag of rice
I bought my S5 off Ebay second hand. That cost me £200 still, but you can easily find a half decent one on there for less.
Re: Phone in a bag of rice
I'm thinking a cheapo Sony Xperia or Microsoft Lumia. Both under £100 new. Long as they can do the usual shit, and a bit of kindle and Spotify then I don't really care tbh tbf. Do they still make Tocco lites?

It might still be fixable, take it to a repair shop and see what they say.

Those repair shops are horrible places.
Re: Phone in a bag of rice
Yeah I was thinking that Mark. Can't hurt to try although I feel it has ceased to be. I'll give it another day or two to dry, if it doesn't wake up I have decided which phone i want
Re: Phone in a bag of rice
Oh and to add insult to injury my phone had all my reminders on it and I missed a dentist appointment today. £45 notes wasted on literally nothing.

Re: Phone in a bag of rice
For me insurance is defo worth it for something I carry around with me, use all day and costs around £300. I pay a bit extra a month to my bank Nationwide for the phone insurance, the £10 a month for my Flexplus account provides worldwide travel insurance, extended warranty on products, breakdown cover(usueful if i had a car lol) and covers my phone. That peace of mind guy.
I've only had to use the insurance once when some mug bumped into me and made me drop my phone a night out and the screen cracked. But it was sorted by the insurance asap and was no bother.
